Abstract. The article briefly outlines the theoretical foundations of agricultural machine use. An assessment of energy costs in the performance of agricultural processes is given on the basis of the rational formula of academician V. P. Goryachkin. The recommendation is given for the use of various research methods (inductive, deductive) of working processes of agricultural machines and implements in rational conditions. The processes of changing the resistance of the plow depending on the speed (plowing depth is constant) have been studied experimentally. The nature of the influence of speed on power consumption during plow operation at great depth has been established.
