Abstract. The study of phenological development regularities of common bilberry Vaccinium myrtillus L. in mountainous areas of the Kabardino-Balkar Republic (Central Caucasus) was carried out. The species completely passes all stages of seasonal development, successfully flowers and fruits in rather stressful natural and climatic conditions of high mountains. In forest cenopopulations of bilberry at an altitude of not more than 2400 m above sea level, the most favourable conditions for the species were observed, contributing to an increase in the duration of phenological phases of flowering and fruiting. When V. myrtillus grows in high-mountain alpine meadows, the delay and reduction of duration of flowering and fruiting of the species, unfavourable for self-sustaining population numbers, are characteristic.
