of B. Utizhev’s Work

Abstract. This article examines the multifaceted work of this outstanding Kabardian playwright, poet, writer, and publicist from the perspective of identifying the characteristics of his poetics, style, and national identity. Following an introductory section that briefly describes B. Utizhev’s creative biography and defines the writer’s place in the Adyghe literary scene, the main section explores the writer’s innovations in the many genres he explored over a long period of time as a poet, writer, playwright, journalist, and publicist. The article discusses the richness and originality of Boris Utizhev’s sonnets, which have been highly praised by critics and literary scholars. Considerable attention is also given to B. Utizhev’s achievements as an artist, as reflected in his dramaturgy. The author’s distinctive ability to combine elements of lyricism, epic poetry, and drama in a single work is highlighted, a rare occurrence even in Russian literary history, as seen in such classics as A. Tvardovsky, V. Lugovskoy, and Y. Marcinkeviˇcius. The article focuses particularly on the poet’s mastery, the richness of the author’s language and the language of his characters in his dramaturgy, and the novelty of epithets, similes, personifications, and metaphors. Extensive journalism is also devoted to issues of native language, literature, theater, and art in general. The author’s critical articles are also included. The conclusion suggests that B. Utizhev’s work will long be in demand in schools and universities that teach Adyghe literature. Some recommendations are also provided for those who are considering researching B. Utizhev’s work.
