Abstract. The present article discusses the semantic and chronicle specificity of such a lexical category as the names of city streets on the example of the capital of the Republic of Adygea, the city of Maykop in the Russian Federation. The subject that is part of the country, with its toponymy,
often and in most cases reflects state historical events, perpetuates federal (sometimes, national) heroes, or fulfills the corresponding metropolitan naming instructions. The final conclusion here is the author’s conclusion about both the informative and emotionally pathetic functional role of the toponymic material considered in the article.
Keywords: Maykop, toponymy, street names, 20th century, history, ethnic component
